Cruise In - Mount Juliet, TN

The Rumpsvillians went out to a local run in Mount Juliet, TN. There were at least 100 cars if not more at this informal cruise. I have posted a few phone camera shots. Next weekend we will return with a good camera so watch the photo album for updates.

The Complete Story, Almost.

Sports Illustrated has a beta (new or test) site, which is called SI Vault. I found the complete article "The Car Cult From Rumpsville." I have never been able to get permission to republish this article in its entirety so I am happy to share this link with all our Rumpsville visitors. I want to point out that the comic titled "Saga of Rumpville" by Pete Millar predates this article. And if you notice the name of the comic is Rumpville, no "s" yet the last page of the comic proclaims that hot rod heaven is "Rumpsville."

60 years of HOT ROD Magazine

This month is HOT ROD Magazine's 60th anniversary and boy how time flies. The Magazine is celebrating with a several special events and note worthy articles in its publication. First off at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum there will be a special exhibit from Apr. 2 through October 2008. Featuring such cars as:

Wally Parks "Suddenly" 57 Plymouth
The Pierson Bros, Coupe - April 1950 issue
Ed Iskenderian's T - May 1948 issue
Ray Brock's El Caballo - Feb. 1955 issue
Wally Parks A-V8 Roadster
Kenny Bernstein's Top Fuel dragster - the first ever to go 300 mph

Second, something I found fun to view online is this list of top 100 influential vehicles. From Dick Craft's rail job, also known as the bug to the drag car my father always brings up when sharing stories of going to the Nationals. Jack Chrisman and his 29 Sedan and the greatest funny car showman all time and my childhood hero Jungle Jim Liberman and his Vega Funny Car I found this to be a great list of truly inspiring vehicles with a short introduction to each, helping stir the imagination if not memories.

Roth's Orbitron

It's kind of old news that Roth's Orbitron was found in Mexico but I received the address for the official website which has a little history including the events leading up to its discovery. Visit and bookmark so you can see the efforts to bring this creation back from grave. Hat tip to Moldy Marv for the site and the address.

R.I.P. Boyd Coddington

I think of Boyd Coddington as the person who introduced billet aluminum wheels to the custom car hobby and then to the mass auto aftermarket. He is known by most for his Discovery Channel TV show American Hot Rod. The sometimes controversial Boyd Coddington will be missed and without a doubt be remembered as an exceptional builder and craftsman. Wikipedia entry about Boyd Coddington
