Cruise In - Mount Juliet, TN

The Rumpsvillians went out to a local run in Mount Juliet, TN. There were at least 100 cars if not more at this informal cruise. I have posted a few phone camera shots. Next weekend we will return with a good camera so watch the photo album for updates.

The Complete Story, Almost.

Sports Illustrated has a beta (new or test) site, which is called SI Vault. I found the complete article "The Car Cult From Rumpsville." I have never been able to get permission to republish this article in its entirety so I am happy to share this link with all our Rumpsville visitors. I want to point out that the comic titled "Saga of Rumpville" by Pete Millar predates this article. And if you notice the name of the comic is Rumpville, no "s" yet the last page of the comic proclaims that hot rod heaven is "Rumpsville."

60 years of HOT ROD Magazine

This month is HOT ROD Magazine's 60th anniversary and boy how time flies. The Magazine is celebrating with a several special events and note worthy articles in its publication. First off at the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum there will be a special exhibit from Apr. 2 through October 2008. Featuring such cars as:

Wally Parks "Suddenly" 57 Plymouth
The Pierson Bros, Coupe - April 1950 issue
Ed Iskenderian's T - May 1948 issue
Ray Brock's El Caballo - Feb. 1955 issue
Wally Parks A-V8 Roadster
Kenny Bernstein's Top Fuel dragster - the first ever to go 300 mph

Second, something I found fun to view online is this list of top 100 influential vehicles. From Dick Craft's rail job, also known as the bug to the drag car my father always brings up when sharing stories of going to the Nationals. Jack Chrisman and his 29 Sedan and the greatest funny car showman all time and my childhood hero Jungle Jim Liberman and his Vega Funny Car I found this to be a great list of truly inspiring vehicles with a short introduction to each, helping stir the imagination if not memories.

Roth's Orbitron

It's kind of old news that Roth's Orbitron was found in Mexico but I received the address for the official website which has a little history including the events leading up to its discovery. Visit and bookmark so you can see the efforts to bring this creation back from grave. Hat tip to Moldy Marv for the site and the address.

R.I.P. Boyd Coddington

I think of Boyd Coddington as the person who introduced billet aluminum wheels to the custom car hobby and then to the mass auto aftermarket. He is known by most for his Discovery Channel TV show American Hot Rod. The sometimes controversial Boyd Coddington will be missed and without a doubt be remembered as an exceptional builder and craftsman. Wikipedia entry about Boyd Coddington

Sears Slide Show

We used to head out to the local Sears Parking lot at the Coolsprings Mall in Brentwood, Tn. The Run has since faded, but I thought a short slide show would be a nice to publish.

Updating Links Page

I receive requests to adding links to the Rumpville web site now and then so I think it's time to come up with a solution that will work for both the web site and live spaces. I am going to create a feed for the two so the list will be available in both places. Look for this change in the coming weeks and feel free to send your url, be it commercial automotive or a blog.

In the mean time I have a link to a new blog called "Wheels and Rubber" that originates out of Indianapolis Indiana. Drop by and tell them the Rumpsvillian sent you. I am sure they would enjoy some traffic and a little feedback.

Music City Halloween Run [update]

Updated the photo archive with a few images from the 33rd Annual Music City Halloween Rod Run Nashville, TN.

The slide show features a shot of a Henway one of only two known vehicles. In the archive is a series of shots of a 40 Ford which was featured in Hotrod magazine years back. Next we have a few rods and a couple I selected because of their Halloween themes. Last is an Indy powered roadster...

Top 8 hand carved skull shifters

Introducing Rumpsville's top 8 hand carved wooded skulls by Norm Grabowski. Some may have noticed the Rumpsville site was without its mind-boggling collection of Norm skulls and other hand carved oddities. Well after coming to the realization that more is not better I have paired down my collection to a Top 8 theme.

The first set of 8 consists of 4 early pieces and 4 new ones that I think show great contrast in the vision of the artist. Several of the newer ones have either copper or billet as an added elements. Here is a link to my first top 8.

Thanks and enjoy!

Redneck Rumble Lebanon Tn

The 2nd annual Redneck Rumble was today Oct 6th, 2007 in Lebanon Tennessee. Held at the Wilson County Fair grounds the event had 350+ entries based on my ticket number, and that was around noon. I bet it will be 450 when is all said and done. The grounds hosted the cars and bikes well with room to grow in the coming years.
I took pictures of mainly rat rod type cars and a few bikes along with a few building that are located on the fairgrounds property. Well except for "Mister D's" and a few other local hot spots that I snapped a picture of as we cruised through town.

Lebanon Tennessee is about 20 minutes southeast of Nashville by highway but we took the 45 minute Old Lebanon Pike route from downtown Nashville. It was a nice ride at 45 to 50mph on a super clear morning. Around the city square and out the other side of town to the grounds we made good time no hassles. Nice folks met us at the gate took our money and stamped us party tested.

Rows of swap meet.

Redneck rumble swap meet is underway with garden rows of parts.

Site update

I just finished adding several new features I have been wanting to play with. The feeds are coming from Live Spaces. This is a small attempt to mash Live Spaces with the existing Rumpsville web site.

I can blog and add images via a mobile device. Tomorrow is the Redneck Rumble, I guess I will see how well the whole thing works when I try to document the event.
Cheers and I hope to see you there!
